A Denver police officer who earned fame as a contestant on “American Gladiator” has resigned amid an internal affairs investigation that had taken her off the street, police officials said Tuesday.
Abbegayle M. Dorn, a seven-year-veteran of the department who most recently patrolled out of the District 3 station in southeast Denver, was moved to an “administrative assignment” earlier this month while the internal affairs bureau conducted its probe, said Lt. Matt Murray, a police spokesman.
Murray confirmed that she has resigned. He has declined to comment on the nature of the investigation.
Dorn and another Denver officer, Vicki Ferrari, were Gladiator contestants in 2008. Two years later, Dorn was sued federally by Rohit Mukherjee, who said she and two other officers “tortured” him while responding to complaints of loud music during a party. The lawsuit claimed Dorn took several cell phones and dunked them in a bowl of water to destroy any evidence that could be used against the officers.
Mukherjee’s attorney said the suit was settled in 2011 for $30,000.
