The Denver District Court has sentenced a man who shot at police and barricaded himself in a building to serve 28 years in prison.
A press release by the District Attorney’s Office Friday said the prosecution had asked for Ryon Olthoff to receive the maximum sentence of 32 years for first-degree assault on a peace officer.
The 36-year-old was taken into custody by a Denver Police Department SWAT team after a seven-hour standoff on Sept. 12, 2012.
Following his arrest, Olthoff was also charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, among other charges.
