ROCKY FORD, Colo.—Colorado cantaloupe farmers say they are ready this year to protect their crops from deadly listeria that hurt their industry several years ago.

According to KRDO-TV ( ), food safety is a top priority for farms, and workers are getting more food safety training.

A 2011 listeria outbreak traced to Colorado’s Jensen Farms killed 33 people.
