COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The heat is taking its toll on Air Force Academy cadets going through basic training exercises.

The Gazette reports () seven cadets had heat exhaustion Tuesday during training in Jacks Valley at the academy. Academy spokesman John Van Winkle says all seven are expected to recover.

Van Winkle says cadets are required to drink large quantities of water through the day and are given breaks. Medics also are on hand. Yet heat exhaustion can still be a problem during basic training.

The Gazette reports the freshman class began with 1,190 cadets, and 1,161 were left as of Tuesday after some dropped out.
