Time served. Tom Heckert will return to Broncos headquarters and his position of director of pro personnel on Thursday.

“I have talked to him,” said John Elway, the Broncos’ director of football operations. “It seems like he’s doing great. He’s been tremendous in doing what we’ve asked him to do and what the league has asked him to do in the 30 days he’s been out. He’s anxious to get back and we’re looking forward to having him back.”

Another Broncos’ executive, Matt Russell, remains on team-imposed indefinite suspension. Russell, who is the director of player personnel, serves over Heckert and answers directly to Elway, received on the evening of July 6 in Summit County.

He was charged with driving under the influence, having an open container of alcohol (peppermint schnapps) in his truck, careless driving resulting in injury and failure to display proof of insurance.

Russell was also accused of hitting one car in Frisco then a few minutes later colliding with a Breckenridge policeman’s patrol vehicle. The Breckenridge officer was taken to a local hospital with neck and back pain and later was released.
