4) Arise Music Festival — Sunrise Ranch, Friday-Sunday, $160-$1,000
Just the name of the sounds refreshing. And taking place on the Sunrise Ranch organic farm in Loveland, Arise and its long list of green initiatives really might be the most refreshing music festival out there. The festival also has activities like yoga, hemp panel discussions, meditation, a whole “decompression day” and even a participatory 500-person human sculpture. But the “health” aspect is only part of the experience. There will also be a huge arsenal of well-known bands performing Friday to Sunday, including Michael Franti and Spearhead, Xavier Rudd, Keller & the Keels, Michal Menert and more. ($160-$1,000, ticketfly.com)
3) Charles Bradley — Larimer Lounge, Saturday, Sold out
What you’re getting with Charles Bradley isn’t just a performance from an incredible soul and R&B singer — you’re getting a story. His gruff, James Brown-inspired voice gasps of years of struggle before signing to Daptone Records late in his life. It’s an emotional story thatap summed up in the documentary, “Soul of America.” Itap going to be a difficult task to fit his powerful voice and character into the intimate Larimer Lounge on Saturday.
2) Pretty Lights — Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Friday-Saturday, Sold out
What you’ll get with a show is a complete sensory experience. The atmosphere of the music is as transportive as the elaborate light and stage setup that Derek Vincent Smith brings to each show. His 2013 tour, which has consisted of most major music festivals and venues in the U.S. and abroad, brings his electronic-funk act home to Colorado on Friday and Saturday. Here is where his following is strongest, which explains the two sold out nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and expect both nights to be a complete party.
My Bloody Valentine — Ogden Theatre, Monday, $45-$50
Fans have been waiting 21 years to hear My Bloody Valentine play new material live. On Monday at the Ogden Theatre they’ll finally get that chance. Earlier this year, the pioneering shoegaze band released its first album in more than two decades, and in that time the band hasn’t lost its touch. The tracks are still haunting, drenched in reverb with melodies floating just beneath the distortion and noise. Please heed one warning, though: This show will be loud, quite possibly the loudest thing you’ll ever have the pleasure to experience. So, wear ear plugs or pay the price.
