Mary Cheney, the openly lesbian daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, posted Friday on Facebook that her sister, who is running for the U.S. Senate in Wyoming, is “dead wrong” to oppose same-sex marriage.
Liz Cheney, who is opposing GOP Sen. Mike Enzi in a primary next year, released a statement last week saying: “I am strongly pro-life and I am not pro-gay marriage.”
Cheney issued the statement after a telephone poll conducted with Wyoming voters raised the question of where she stood on the issue of same-sex marriage.
Mary Cheney married her longtime partner Heather Poe last year. Their father said in June 2009 that he supports same-sex marriage.
“For the record, I love my sister, but she is dead wrong on the issue of marriage,” Mary Cheney wrote on Facebook, urging readers to like or share the post.
