Convicted kidnapper Ariel Castro was found dead in an Ohio prison cell after he hanged himself Tuesday night.
Castro was found hanging in his cell at 9:20 p.m., JoEllen Smith, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Corrections told The Denver Post.
“Staff immediately attempted life-saving measures,” she said.
Castro was taken to the Ohio State University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:52 p.m., Smith said,
Officials declined to specify what Castro used to hang himself.
Castro was in “protective custody” and was to be checked in on every 30 minutes, Smith said.
