Xcel Energy Monday filed a request with state regulators to raise electricity bills two percent or about $1.50 for the average residential customer for the last three months of 2013.
The increase is to offset higher fuels costs, Xcel said in a statement. The company is allowed to pass fuel increases or decreases directly to customers.
Under Xcel’s proposal, the charge for the average 632 kilowatt-hour residential bill would rise to $69.93 from $68.43.
The average small business bill for 1,123 kilowatt-hours would rise $2.67 to $113.71.
The rate increase must be approved by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.
