Denver police have arrested a man who allegedly stole purses from multiple elderly women inside grocery stores in northeast and south Denver.

Michael Mims, 38, was arrested Friday morning at a downtown office building, according to a news release from the Denver Police Department.

Mims is suspected of stealing the purses at metro-area grocery stores since July.

The victims were elderly women ages 60 to 80, who reported their purses stolen while shopping.

Investigators determined that Mims was the suspect after viewing surveillance video and receiving a valuable Crime Stoppers tip, the release said.

Mims is suspected of more than a dozen thefts, police said.

Mims is being held for investigation of theft from an at-risk adult.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
