ALBUQUERQUE — Twenty stores in Arizona and New Mexico, plus two in southwest Colorado, received contaminated gas from a northwestern New Mexico refinery.
Western Refining spokesman Gary Hanson says a gasket failed, allowing water to leak into a petroleum storage tank near Gallup last week. The company has established a claims hotline.
Stores in Rio Rancho, Kirtland, Jamestown, Aztec, Gallup, Santa Fe, Farmington and Albuquerque got deliveries of the contaminated gas. In Arizona, it went to stores in Springerville, Show Low, Teec Nos Pos, Holbrook, Flagstaff, Pinon, St. Johns and Keams Canyon.
Western Refining is paying for repairs, provided there’s documentation for the Oct. 8 gasoline purchases at those stores and repairs.
The Durango Herald reports that two Giant convenience stores in Cortez and Durango also received bad gasoline. The supplies since have been replaced.
