LOVELAND — A Milliken man was arrested last week near a Loveland park where police said he had agreed to meet an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Ronald Ted Brown, 59, was arrested near Dwayne Webster Park on West 13th Street on Wednesday afternoon. According to an arrest affidavit, Loveland Police Detective Brian Koopman used the undercover identity of a 14-year-old Loveland girl and began daily text conversations with Brown on Oct. 25 after responding to a Craigslist ad placed by the Milliken man.

In the ad, Brown reportedly requested someone become his texting partner or more. When Koopman presented himself as a 14-year-old girl, the text conversations became sexually explicit, according to the affidavit.

On Wednesday, Brown allegedly agreed to meet the girl at the park to engage in sexual activity. Police reportedly observed him entering the area around the park where the meeting was to take place at the approximate time they had agreed upon.

He circled the park, parked one block south, then sent a text message asking whether the girl was coming, after which police made the arrest.

Brown was charged with luring and exploitation of a child, Class 4 felonies, and was remanded to Larimer County Jail.

The Larimer County district attorney’s office accepted the charges Friday.
