Bovine bargain

Put down your steak knives! Those self-preserving Chick-fil-A cows are at it again, putting their bovine twist on an American road trip to create the “Greeting From The Cows 2014” calendar. Available at participating Chick-fil-A restaurants (while supplies last), the calendars are $6, plus tax. The calendar will draw smiles and help you keep up with all of next year’s low-cost events. Even better, each month you receive a free menu item, including a bowl of soup, breakfast entrée, waffle fries, salad and spicy chicken sandwich. To get the monthly freebie, just activate the included Calendar Card online and then keep it in your wallet to show when you order.

Bookmark holiday fun

Bookstores can be quiet refuges from the seasonal bustle. Not so at Barnes & Noble on what it calls Discovery Friday, Nov. 22 when all stores become a whirlwind of holiday activity. Customers can enjoy free family-friendly games, activities, storytimes (10 a.m. “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” 2 p.m. “The Day the Crayons Quit,” and 7 p.m. “The Elf on the Shelf”), book signings, competitions and a “Duck Dynasty” cut-out beards photo station. Plus, there will be tons of giveaways including stickers, movie posters, coloring books and “Hunger Games” temporary tattoos. Supplies store are limited, so arrive early to nab your favorites.

Basket-bell deal

When the Denver Nuggets score 110 points or more in a game, win or lose, fans can slam dunk four tacos for $1 at Taco Bell at participating locations the next day between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. To get the deal you need to also purchase a large beverage. The offer applies only to regular hard tacos, sorry, Doritos Locos Taco fanatics. To avoid the large crowds, be on time. The promo is “game over” on April 17.

Reindeer games

If the kiddos need some holiday magic, head over to Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops (7970 Northfield Blvd. in Denver, 720-385-3600) through Dec. 24. This may be the best holiday deal in town as everything is free — animated and “live” elves, nutcrackers, reindeer, an old-time model train area, remote control trucks, games (anyone for slot-car races?) and activity tables where children can write a letter to Santa, color, make ornaments or decorate cookies. Kids even get a free 4×6 photo taken with Santa. If the line is long, grab a Bass Pass and return at a set appointment time. Santa’s Wonderland operates from store opening to closing daily, with special hours for crafts and visits with the big, jolly guy. For a complete schedule go to and click on “our local store.”
