A three-car crash in Aurora on Thursday morning critically injured a passenger, police said.

The crash happened about 6:05 a.m. Thursday on South Gun Club Road south of East Jewell Avenue, according to an Aurora Police Department media release.

Police said a Honda Acura was heading south on Gun Club when the car drifted onto the right shoulder. The driver overcorrected, police said, and the Acura slid sideways into the northbound lane.

A Ford Mustang heading north collided with the Acura, plowing the passenger side door.

The driver of the Acura was treated at a local hospital and released, police said. The passenger in the Acura is in critical condition.

The driver of the Mustang was not injured.

A third car hit the rear of the Mustang but caused no further damage or injury, police said.

Investigators are looking into whether the driver of the Acura was going too fast for road conditions in the snow Thursday morning.

The names of the drivers, and the passenger, were not released.
