Strong carbon pollution standards are in the works for existing power plants, an issue that has elicited praise from environmentalists and concern from those representing Colorado’s coal industry.

We talked to both sides in segments of The Roundup, a public affairs discussion conducted by The Post editorial board.

Stuart Sanderson, president of the Colorado Mining Association, told us coal mining is an important Colorado industry and that Colorado coal is known for burning cleaner than coal mined in other areas.

He hoped the new regulations, that will be proposed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, wouldn’t be punitive to the industry.

Anneli Berube, regional field organizer for Environment Colorado, said the new regulations would help reduce carbon emissions that contribute to global warming. She looks forward to seeing them.
