NIWOT, Colo.—Xcel Energy says it has restored natural gas to most of the thousands of customers who lost service.
Company spokesman Mark Stutz says an equipment failure at a regulator station Friday morning knocked out service to about 7,300 customers in Niwot and unincorporated Boulder County.
He says that by 7 a.m. Sunday, crews had restored power to all but about 200 customers.
The equipment was repaired Friday afternoon, but crews had to go door-to-door to restart customers’ pilot lights. The remaining customers without service could not be contacted to have their homes’ or business’ pilot lights restarted.
The outage came just as a winter blast brought snow and single-digit temperatures to much of Colorado. Temperatures are expected to reach near 40 degrees by the middle of the week.
