OXFORD, Ohio — The University of Denver had a chance to sweep the weekend series at Miami (Ohio), trailing 1-0 heading into the third period, but the RedHawks scored three more times for a 4-2 win that ended the Pioneers’ seven-game winning streak.

Miami outshot DU 15-7 in the third period, 9-1 in the first 10 minutes, getting goals in the first four minutes from Riley Barber and Sean Kuraly.

The Pioneers cut the deficit to 3-1 with 5:55 left when junior Matt Tabrum ripped a wrist shot from the between the circles after a give-and-go with Matt Marcinew.

Quentin Shore scored his third of the year to make it 3-2, and the Pioneers had 6.7 seconds to pull off a miracle.

But after Miami won the faceoff, Austin Czarnik fired the puck in DU’s empty net for the final margin.

Czarnik got the RedHawks’ first goal after a flurry of penalties. DU should have had a power play despite a penalty, but Miami’s Alex Wideman received a game misconduct after a hard hit from behind on Josiah Didier. DU was then called for too many men, losing a majority of the power-play opportunity, and Czarnik scored on a 4-on-4.
