GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Grand Junction Police Department is apologizing to residents who received an unnecessary phone call early Tuesday.

The department issued a statement saying an employee was attempting to send a road closure notification through the Community Notification System to a limited group of citizens who specifically requested the information.

Instead, the employee inadvertently included everyone listed in the emergency database.

The department says steps are being taken to avoid future problems.
