Column: Paying college athletes won't work, and it shouldn't happen

Last week, following the disclosure that Northwestern University football players —spearheaded by quarterback Kain Colter — hoped to be recognized as employees and join a labor union, one of the issues again brought up was whether college football players and other college athletes should be "paid."
