
The recent law change in Castle Rock to allow the open-carry of guns on town property has been challenged and blocked, at least temporarily.
On Wednesday, residents submitted a referendum petition to town officials protesting the law change, which would have taken effect Thursday, according to a statement on the town’s website.
Jacob Vargish and Siegfried Guentensberger submitted the signatures, according to the statement.

The petition consists of 1,887 signatures or 5 percent of registered voters in Castle Rock, according to the statement.
Previously, the town manager mandated where open carry was allowed when it came to town-owned property.
The town clerk will verify the petition signatures.
If the petition is deemed sufficient, council will make the decision to rescind the law or put the issue to a public vote, according to the statement.
