After an ESPN The Magazine piece surrounding Ian Kinsler and his comments, the Detroit Tigers second baseman is claiming that his comments were taken out of context.

The former Texas Ranger told a reporter that he hoped his former team would go winless and called the Texas Rangers’ general manager a “sleazeball,” in a piece published online Tuesday morning.

Here’s what Kinsler told the media Tuesday, according to the Associated Press:

I’m not happy about it. I think that the story was written for drama, and taken a little out of context. I understand there were some things directed at the GM, but as far as my teammates and the fans, there’s nothing negative to say about that, and I think the quotes taken about the general manager were taken a little out of context.

Kinsler added that his comment, wishing the Rangers went 0-162, was meant to be a joke. Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington poked some fun at the comment, at which he didn’t seem offended.

“We won’t go 0-162, guaranteed,” he said.
