Two mini-film fests bring a couple of notable guests to town this weekend.
For years, some of the hottest tickets at the annual the Starz Denver Film Festival have been those for its Czech films. So, when the Czech Embassy in Los Angeles approached the Denver Film Society about partnering with them on a traveling show, film society artistic director Brit Withey was all in.
“I was incredibly thrilled to hear that (director) Jan Hrebejk would be touring with his new film and jumped at the chance,” says Withey.
“We’ve screened almost all of his previous films in the festival and his 2006 film, ‘Beauty In Trouble,’ won the Krzysztof Kieslowski Award for Best Foreign Film that year.
“Czech that Film” — April 5-8 — begins with Hrebejk’s A decidedly welcome guest, Hrebejk will attend Saturday’s screening: The Sie FilmCenter, 2510 Colfax Ave. Tickets $12-$15 denverfilm.org or 720-381-0813.
