The nominees for the 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Prize have been announced. Chosen by a panel of British music critics and industry members, the prize is awarded to the best British album of the past year. This year’s Mercury Prize winner will be announced on Oct. 29.
While this year’s shortlist is hardly the big group of names that made 2013 (Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie), Damon Albarn has been nominated for his solo debut.
James Blake won for his sophomore album “Overgrown.”
