DOSWELL, va. — University of Richmond administrators say that two members of its women’s basketball staff were aboard a hot-air balloon that went down in a fiery crash.
Assistant coach Ginny Doyle and director of basketball operations Natalie Lewis were aboard the balloon with a pilot when it went down after hitting a power line. Remains of two of the three have been found. The remains of the pilot and a passenger, identified by family spokeswoman Julie Snyder as Lewis, were recovered about 1,500 yards apart in wooded areas.
Lewis was in her third year as director of basketball operations, according to the university’s website. Doyle, who graduated from Richmond in 1992 after a standout playing career, had served on the team staff for 16 years.
The balloon was among 13 that lifted off Friday night and was approaching a landing site nearby.
