Cone or cup
Ice cream tastes extra sweet when it’s free. Celebrating more than 50 years of being cool, ice cream giant Häagen-Dazs hosts its 8th annual Free Cone Day on May 13. From 4 to 8 p.m., participating Häagen-Dazs shops will give customers a free scoop of ice cream. Limit one per guest. Four participating metro locations — Broomfield, Denver, Lakewood and Westminster.
You don’t have to chip in
Woody Creek Cafe & Bakery celebrates National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day on May 15 by handing out its award-winning chocolate- chip cookies for free all day. You know they’re good because the dough is made from scratch and hand-scooped. Their goal is a whopping 10,000 free cookies, so be sure to do your part and stop in to get yours. One per customer, please. All seven locations are participating, including four in Denver, one in Boulder and two shops at DIA.
Shred it
Tossing old receipts and paperwork in the trash is no option in this age of identity theft. You can get sensitive paperwork shredded for free at the 9NEWS Shred-a-thon on May 17 between 7 a.m. and noon. Choose from five locations: Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department (13101 E. Broncos Parkway in Centennial), Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (200 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden), Aurora Municipal Courthouse (14999 E. Alameda Ave. in Aurora), Westminster Police Department (9110 Yates St. in Westminster) and 9NEWS (500 Speer Blvd. in Denver.) The 9NEWS site opens early at 6 a.m. For added protection, the shredding is supervised by law enforcement officials.
