Hole in one

On National Donut Day, June 6, LaMar’s Donuts (nine metro-area locations) and Krispy Kreme (two locations) are giving away free doughnuts. With no purchase necessary, each customer gets a free doughnut of any variety with a hole in it. Plus, Dunkin’ Donuts (four locations) is giving away a free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage. The offers are available at participating locations, limit one per person and available while supplies last. , ,

Pizza party

Though only open in Denver for just over a year, Patxi’s Pizza celebrates its 10th anniversary in business (they started in San Francisco) on June 4 with free pizza, cake, beer and wine for all between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Partygoers wearing a Patxi’s T-shirt also will get a $20 gift card. Everyone who orders pizza for delivery on June 4 can also join the fun. A “golden ticket” is tucked in each order, with prizes ranging from gift cards to free pizza for a year. There are three metro area locations — two in Denver and one in Englewood.

Hooked on fun

If you’re fishing for some family fun this weekend, pack a lunch, grab your fishing gear and head to the lake. On June 7 and June 8, Colorado Parks and Wildlife offers a Free Fishing Weekend. Anglers of all ages can fish without a license anywhere in the state. With so many reservoirs, lakes, ponds and high-altitude streams, you’re sure to hook a fish or two. The best catch of all is that fishing brings more than $1.9 billion annually to our state’s economy.

Get grilled

“Grill masters” should mark their calendar for Ace Hardware’s annual Grill Your Ace Off competition and fundraiser. On June 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., customers can enjoy food, grilling demos and discounts on all things grilling. Local chefs will face off in grilling competitions, with the public invited to sample for free what the teams are grilling and, in some cases, vote for their favorites. Stores will offer “free” hot dogs, soda and pizza for a small donation (even just $1) to Children’s Hospital Colorado. Some will host free kid’s activities such as bounce castles, carnival games and face painting.

Each Monday, Laura and Bryan at compile “Cheap Checklist” to help find deals, discounts and freebies. Know of a deal? E-mail info@milehighonthecheap.com 10 to 14 days in advance.
