
Elizabeth Vargas, anchor for ABC-TV’s newsmagazine , will deliver the keynote address when the stages its 22nd fundraising luncheon.
Two thousand people are expected to attend the event held at the on Oct 23. Tickets, or by calling 303-285-2960, will go on sale later this month.
Vargas’ father was a colonel in the U.S. Army and she grew up on military bases in Germany and Belgium. She received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri and is married to Grammy-winning singer-songwriter , perhaps best known for his song “Walking in Memphis.”
A former anchor for ABC’s World News Tonight, Vargas has covered such major events as Hurricane Katrina, the deaths of Presidents Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy Jr., the murder of Matthew Shepard and the disappearance of Laci Peterson.
She recently shared her struggle with alcohol addiction.
“Her professional and life experiences will weave incredible stories of strength and courage,” says Louise Atkinson, the foundation’s president and chief executive officer.
