A woman died Tuesday afternoon while trying to save a dog that fell in the fast-moving water of the Highland Ditch in Longmont.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was visiting friends when she tried to rescue the dog, according to a news release by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
After the woman waded into the water, the fast-moving current carried her into the ditch. Her friends pulled her out and began CPR before deputies arrived after a 911 call at about 1:30 p.m., the release said.
The woman was transported to Longmont United Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The dog was rescued and is doing fine, according to the release.
