Interview with Nicole Younkin, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I became interested in nutrition back in 2004 when my son, 2 at the time, struggled with some health issues. I was given a gift of knowledge about the role nutrition could play in his health from a friend of mine. After changing his diet, his health dramatically changed. Since that time I have been on a journey of educating myself about nutrition and the dramatic effect it can have on the disease process. As a natural progression to the reading I had done over the last few years, I went back to school to become a nutritionist in 2011. I chose a program I felt gave me the most knowledge and was taught by the leading experts in the field. I started Healthy Forks Wellness Center to empower others to take control of their health through diet and lifestyle choices and to be a part of a movement of people who have decided that their health is important and they are going to do everything they can to live a healthy lifestyle.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: What makes Healthy Forks Wellness unique is our training and understanding of what science shows is an optimal diet and lifestyle. We look at the totality of the dietary pattern and use a proven plant based approach to help people attain wellness. We thoroughly review a client’s health status and make dietary recommendations based on the underlying issues.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: Empowering people with the knowledge of how to change their diet and then watching their success. We have seen some amazing transformations in individuals’ health and weight. I think making a difference in our clients’ lives and health is the best part of what we do.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Our biggest challenge is figuring out the best approach to reach our potential clients. We have a lot to offer and are working on building our client base.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Most people don’t know that I have a computer science degree and worked as a software developer for about 12 years before changing my focus to nutrition.
