Future Islands, Princess Music and more make our list of best Colorado shows this week. We’ll be seeing you there, and if you don’t make it out, follow the music musings and our

4) Princess Music — Aug. 28, Hi-Dive

The Hi-Dive on Aug. 28 is the last chance you will ever get to see Denver chamber pop act Princess Music. That’s right, after four years, the Hot Congress Records band is ending its run. Frontman Tyler Ludwick announced the news on Facebook in early July. “This is not the end of the book… just a chapter,” Ludwick said, hinting that there would be other musical opportunities in the future. Mega Gem, the Still Tide and David Moss are opening this farewell show.

3) Dave Chappelle — Aug. 24, Red Rocks

Itap tough to believe that Dave Chappelle was 19 years old when he made his film debut in Mel Brooks’ “Robin Hood: Men in Tights.” On Aug. 24, Chappelle, the wildly popular comedian ranked as one of the greatest stand-ups of all time, will turn 41. And he’s celebrating with a party at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Since returning to the public eye in 2013, Chappelle has tenderly returned to stand-up with a handful of shows (many of which have been in Denver). Obviously, Chappelle has some sort of affinity for Colorado — just don’t bring up the “Chappelle Show.”

2) OutKast — Aug. 22, Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre

You can call 2014 the year of OutKast. After seven years of inactivity, the iconic hip-hop duo returned to with more than 40 live performances in 2014. Starting with Coachella in April, Andre 3000 and Big Boi have taken the stage together at Lollapalooza, Sasquatch, Governors Ball and many more. Looking ahead, they’ll make their first appearance in Colorado since reforming on Aug. 22 at the Mad Decent Block Party at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. After that, the duo looks ahead to Austin City Limits, Treasure Island Music Festival and ends the lengthy run on Oct. 31 at VooDoo Experience in New Orleans. And all this without any word of a new album… ($55-$99.50, fiddlersgreenamp.com)

1) Future Islands — Aug. 27, Gothic Theatre

“Future Islands’ Sam Herring will shove his fist in his mouth as if he’s pulling his heart out through his esophagus. He’ll throw his arms behind his head and thrust his hips like no one is watching. Dripping with sweat, Herring will growl and pound his chest with his fist.” This is how we described Future Islands’ live show in our recent feature of synthpop act. In 2014, the band has had a breakout year thanks to its latest album “Singles.” And while it’s playing bigger, sold out venues, it’s live show remains the wild, theatrical dance party that we’re used to.
