In Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, Democrat Irv Halter’s campaign reports he has raised $33,000 more than his opponent, Republican incumbent Rep. Doug Lamborn, in the second quarter.

Halter’s campaign manager Ethan Susseles said Halter raised $178,272 in the second quarter to Lamborn’s $145,258. That brings Halter’s total cash on hand to $319,041, which nearly triples Lamborn’s $114,864, who had to spend money fighting off a primary opponent.

Tuesday was the deadline for federal candidates to submit their fundraising reports for the second quarter of 2014.

Rep. Doug Lamborn will travel in Air Force One with the president today to Colorado Springs.

Halter, a retired Air Force general and a former Republican, seeks to unseat Lamborn, of Colorado Springs, who is running for a fifth term in the district. Lamborn , Bentley Rayburn, in the June 24 GOP primary by a margin of 5.1 percent and less than 4,000 votes.

In response to Lamborn’s victory, Halter to a series of three debates to take place in August, September and October. As of now, no response has been issued, but Jarred Rego, the campaign spokesman for Lamborn, said “we are still evaluating the schedule.”
