A WPX Energy Inc. rig drills for natural gas outside Rifle on June 20. (George Frey, Bloomberg)
The July 14 edition of The Post had a full-page ad by American Natural Gas touting the cleaner-air benefits of using natural gas. However, when next flying north or west from Denver International Airport, look out the window to see thousands of drilling sites that despoil the once rural and scenic landscapes. A pox on those who ignore the reality of this. The underlying issue is that mineral rights in Colorado trump all other rights — loss of home rule (zoning), compatible land use, inevitable reduction of home values near drilling sites, degradation of roads by trucks related to drill sites, and much more.
