ACC men’s lacrosse rookie of the year Connor Cannizzaro officially joined the Denver Pioneers Tuesday, Pioneers head coach Bill Tierney announced in a release.
Cannizzaro was Maryland’s third-leading scorer last season (34 points) and tied for third in goals (26). The move, , reunites the transfer with his older brother Sean, a senior-to-be midfielder for the Pioneers.
“His lacrosse and athletic abilities speak for themselves as witnessed by his selection as the ACC rookie of the year this past season,” Tierney said in a statement. “More importantly, Connor’s arrival ensures that we will have the Cannizzaro family be a part of the DU lacrosse family for three more years.”
There is no transfer penalty in Division I lacrosse when a player is given a release from his team, thus Cannizzaro will be eligible to play this coming season as a sophomore.
