Interview with Kim Blaher, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I became interested in the lash extension business when I got eyelash extensions as a gift for Mother’s Day. With my first look in the mirror at my new eyelash extensions, I knew that this was something I had to learn. Just the physical difference was amazing, but what really mattered was what happened on the inside. I felt pretty. I felt a huge surge of self-esteem. I felt like could take on the world. I have always loved making people feel good about themselves and, with the change something so small could bring about for me, I knew I had to learn how to do eyelash extensions so I could make other women feel as good about themselves as my new extensions made me feel about myself.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: What really distinguishes me in the eyelash business from other eyelash technicians in the area is the skill I bring to my trade and my use of very high-quality products, which I have researched thoroughly. I also have two different kinds of lash extensions that I offer: silk and synthetic. That way I have an affordable option for everyone. I give every woman the exact personalized extensions they need to bring out the beauty of each and every client.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I love that I get to work with amazing women every day. I think that my most memorable client was a breast cancer survivor who had undergone chemo and a double-mastectomy. After her lashes grew in enough for me to work with, I was able to give her an amazing set of extensions. I think she and I both cried a little as she looked in the mirror after I had finished. I loved that I was able to give this woman back something to make her feel beautiful.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The biggest challenge of my business is getting the word out about how truly amazing the lash extension service is. It seems like a high-maintenance service, but, in truth, it is something that makes women’s lives more low-maintenance. You wake up looking ready for the day without the time-consuming makeup routines. Women have more time in their days for things that really matter.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I am a fully licensed cosmetologist who is trained in hair, skin and nails. I’m a good stylist, but I do not have the passion for hair that I do with eyelash extensions. Because I had the support of my amazing husband, I was in a position that I could really do what I was passionate about. So I solely do lash extension at Castle Rock Extensions. I love what I do each and every day.
