Kurt Overhardt is the founder and CEO of , which represents NHL players such as goalies Mike Smith (PHO) and Brian Elliott (STL), defensemen Kevin Bieksa (VAN), Jacob Trouba (WPG) and Andrew Ferrence (EDM), and forwards Ryan Kesler (ANA), Kyle Turris (OTT) and Ryan Johansen (CLB). Overhardt’s 17-year-old son, Alex, could also become a client.
Alex Overhardt captained coach Angelo Ricci’s U16 Colorado Thunderbirds to a runnerup finish at USA Hockey’s Tier I (triple-A) national championships last season, losing to Team Wisconsin in an epic 2-1 four OT thriller. Overhardt finished tied for second in Tbirds Elite League scoring with 30 points (15 goals) in 37 league games. DU recruit Troy Terry had a team-high 41 points (16 goals).
Overhardt, a 6-foot forward, is bound to play with for coach Mike Johnston. Turgeon, son of future Hall of Famer Pierre Turgeon of Cherry Hills, is scheduled to begin his third season with Portland after being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in June.
Overhardt is the latest U.S. product to go the major-junior rout and hike up the record numbers of Americans choosing the Canadian Hockey League over the NCAA. But make no mistake, this kid got excellent advise before making his decision.
