A day after incumbent Gov. John Hickenlooper from OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, challenger Bob Beauprez rolled out a high-profile endorsement of his own: New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez.
Martinez brings a lot to the Beauprez campaign and boosts his profile among a couple of blocs said to be vital to this year’s race in Colorado: She is the first female governor of New Mexico and first Hispanic female governor in U.S. history. Hickenlooper, by virtue of being a Democrat, is expected to have an edge in both demographics.
“In New Mexico, we face many of the same challenges you face here in Colorado,” Martinez said in the one-minute clip. “We want our citizens to have more career opportunities. We want to improve education outcomes for our children. We want to create high-quality good-paying jobs, and we want to have the confidence of living in safe neighborhoods.”
Martinez is in Denver this week to attend the U.S. Manufacturing Summit, sponsored by Walmart, as part of the company’s effort to increase use of American-made products. She also attended a fund-raiser for Beauprez, her office .
She was on TIME magazine’s in 2013 and was Hispanic Business magazine’s .
“Gov. Martinez is doing great things for New Mexico,” Beauprez said . “She’s a former prosecutor, she knows how to make tough decisions, but she’s doing so in such a way as to bring people together behind a common vision. I like that model of leadership.”
