Wonder how to work catwalk cool into your own closet? Here’s how to translate the trends for real life.
Don’t let the temperature fool you. Sure, your AC is cranked and you’re actually looking forward to someone nominating you to take the ice bucket challenge, but, if you judge by the inventory in clothing stores now, summer is a memory and we’ve fully entered fall territory.
However, while we can’t wait to try out all the new autumn runway trends, faux fur, velvet and capes will just have to wait a while longer. Luckily, there are styles we would be more than happy to don tomorrow. Here are three fall looks from the 2014 collections, along with more affordable options, you can wear now. Just be sure to change before you dump that bucket of ice water over your head, OK?

THE RUNWAY: Diesel Gold Black, fall 2014
Sparkles were trendy for fall (was that a cheer we just heard from your inner girlie girl?), as evidenced at the Diesel Gold Black runway show. An LBD with shiny mirrored embellishments? We refuse to wait until the leaves turn to wear that trend.

YOUR WAY: BCBGMaxAzria Gabriella , $184,
A traditional black sheath dress gets all sorts of fab updates with an interesting neckline, mirror-sequined embellishments and shiny stripe details. Wear it now with sandals, and, when it gets cooler, add ankle boots and a moto jacket for a whole different vibe.

THE RUNWAY: Lela Rose, fall 2014
Texturized fabrics, like this embellished lace overlay dress from Lela Rose, were trendy on the fall catwalks.

YOUR WAY: Korovilas Estella embroidered lace , $545,
A pretty pink embroidered lace dress is on trend, but still classic, when it comes in a demure knee-length silhouette. We love this dress for a late summer wedding. In the thick of fall, throw on a cardi for a polished office look.
Adeam’s mini dress, with its structured shoulders and asymmetrical hem, is the epitome of cool. ( Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for Mercedes-Benz)
THE RUNWAY: Adeam, fall 2014
While the midi remains hot for fall, a ‘60s-esque mini dress is also trendy, like this modernized look with leather trim from Adeam.

YOUR WAY: J Brand Ready to Wear , $208,
A swingin’ minidress looks ready for fall 2014, with cool cap sleeves and peep-toe ankle boots. When it gets cold, swap in knee-high boots or tights for a look that still rocks.
