The final results from Castle Rock’s special election on open carry of firearms held earlier this week probably won’t be known until late next week, a town official said Friday.

Spokeswoman Karen Carter said election officials are still processing the approximately 9,400 mail-in ballots the town received from voters in the Tuesday election.

Workers plan to continue processing ballots through the weekend and into next week, she said.

Castle Rock voters whether the town manager should have the authority to ban open carry of firearms in public buildings and parks and whether any future gun restrictions should go to a vote of the people.
