And the Emmy award for “Most awkward red carpet interview” goes to E!’s Guiliana Rancic.
I’ve abandoned my award show Sunday ritual thanks to increasingly ridiculous coverage. I also abandoned watching the Emmys alltogether this year because it aired on a Monday and “” wasn’t nominated.
But when I saw a Facebook post (below) from The Hollywood Reporter, “#Emmys red carpet photos…all of the fashion…none of the Guiliana talking,” I couldn’t help tuning into the train wreck.
Leave it to pot-loving comedian Sarah Silverman to be the one to finally call out Rancic.
The interview started with, “Why did you put the microphone in front of me? You didn’t say a question, you’re just like, ‘Hey, you’re dressed like a nominee.’”
The “nominee” gave design credit of her plunging hunter green Marni gown to “Marnie from Girls” and adjusted her cleavage for the cameras, proudly proclaiming, “They’re the lowest they’ve ever been and the highest they’re ever gonna be!” which she jokingly credited to Maya Angelou.
When subjected to the “Mani Cam,” she flaunted her unpolished nails with a reason, “I’ve been on the road … these are working hands.” E! also decided to introduce a “Clutch Cam” this year, which is where Silverman really won the red carpet.
Silverman, like many of the celebrities, didn’t know the designer of her purse. Rancic took it upon herself to find out who Silverman was holding and popped open the accessory. What she did find? A vape pen, which Silverman had to explain to the surprised host, “This is my pot … itap, uh … my liquid pot.”
Silverman went on to win gold for the HBO special “Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles,” where she smokes a joint outside the L.A. comedy club in the opening scene. After accepting the statue barefoot, she told reporters backstage she wasn’t stoned and, “I had pot for later in my purse.”
Vape on, Sarah.
