Interview with Lyn Larson, owner and lead instructor
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: This is truly my life’s passion. I started Haka! Group Fitness because I wanted to help others to be active, confident in how they look and appreciate how beautiful they are. I started as a student of Les Mills’ programs 15 years ago and completely fell in love with the energy and quality of the programs. It didn’t take long for me to realize that becoming an instructor was a life dream. Owning my own group fitness studio has taken that dream to new levels, as I love helping our members as well as helping many of our awesome instructors get their training and internship to become great instructors.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We’re the locally-owned boutique fitness facility that specializes in group fitness classes led by certified and enthusiastic instructors. We believe in a philosophy of fitness, fun and friendship. Everything we do will benefit you, especially if you have limited knowledge about safe and effective exercise programming. Classes are designed with warm-up, cool down and flexibility, in addition to the conditioning part. When people work out alone, they often skip important parts. We will motivate you through the complete program.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: My passion, energy and friendly style will have you looking forward to your workout routine every day. I started and built Haka! Group Fitness because I want to make fitness a social event. Just come to one of my special events at Haka! or take our classes and you will see how Haka! Group Fitness and all of my instructors break the fitness status quo.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The biggest challenge with any fitness facility is getting members in the door to try it. Some are fearful, some think they haven’t enough time and some just think they will be bored or can’t do it. We do really focus on the social aspect in our programs so that you have plenty of support. Also for those with little time, we structured a diverse schedule with classes that can get you in and out for a full conditioning workout, cool down and stretching in 60 minutes.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: We are a locally-owned and locally-operated small business. Many have asked and assumed we are a franchise. But actually we take pride in being locally owned and a true “boutique” fitness studio where everyone knows your name.
