A year ago as a true freshman, Colorado State wide receiver Rashard Higgins did not have a particularly good performance in the 41-27 loss to Colorado.
Higgins caught six passes for just 57 yards, and had a couple of drops in the 2013 Rocky Mountain Showdown. But Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre has watched enough film of CSU’s subsequent games to see that Higgins settled down and developed into a tremendous talent.
Higgins finished the season with 68 catches for 837 yards and six touchdowns. His 68 receptions were the most by a Colorado State player since David Anderson’s 86 in 2005.
You can bet Colorado will be very aware of Higgins’ every move Friday night (7 p.m., Fox Sports 1) during the Rocky Mountain Showdown at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
“(Higgins) can fly,” MacIntyre said. “I see speed. I see him running by defensive backs right and left. He’s an excellent football player.
“He’s rangy. He’s not super tall (6-foot-2) but he’s long, if that makes sense. He’s able to stretch and get the football. I’ve been very impressed with all their receiving corps.”
