Conventional wisdom says the re-election bid for Congressman Jared Polis, a wealthy Boulder Democrat, should be a nothing burger but this has been an unconventional year.
Consider this recent tweet from Tisha Schuller, executive director of the Colorado Oil and Gas Assoication, who touts Republican challenger George Leing in a tweet:
Another reason to support George Leing. Polis: regs likely headed to 2015 vote

The idea that Polis could be back again with more ballot measures doesn’t sit well with Schuler and others. Polis has taken heat from for financially backing ballot measures that would give citizens and local governments more control over drilling.
But you have to hand it to Polis who, despite the controversy, has hosted a record number of town halls this summer.
He kept a town-hall engagement in Boulder on Aug. 5, which happened to be the day after Gov. John Hickenlooper announced a compromise over the ballot measures had been reached. Polis would pull the two measures he financially backed, and those behind the industry-backed measures pulled their’s. Although Polis knew he’d take a drubbing in Boulder, .
Among House members who are holding town halls this August, Polis ranks in the Top 15 of all House members and second among Democrats, .
Democrat Jared Polis of Boulder photo-bombs his fellow congressman, Republicans Mike Coffman of Aurora and Cory Gardner of Yuma, at the annual Denver Rustlers luncheon Aug. 26.
Meanwhile, you have to give Leing’s campaign bonus points for creativity.
In a recent e-mail to supporters, he included a picture from The Denver Post showing Polis photo bombing his fellow congressmen, Republicans Mike Coffman and Cory Gardner, at the Denver Rustlers luncheon.
Polis was just having fun, and Coffman and Gardner got a laugh out of it, too.
Instead of photoshopping Polis out of the picture, Leing suggested donating to his campaign, to help “remove Polis from Congress!”
