Getting your player ready...

What would the dawn of the 21st century have been like without Linkin Park? How would the Millennial Generation have turned out if they hadn’t spent the better part of their adolescence screaming self-absorbed lyrics into the metallic abyss until they popped a blood vessel?

Well, that’s a question we’ll never have an answer to, because (like it or not) we all contributed to Linkin Park’s years of chart dominance. Did you even realize that the band’s release, “Hybrid Theory,” is the best selling debut album of the 21st century…?

And you have to give them credit, too, because they’re still making music and they’re still anchoring huge tours, like the one that hits Colorado’s 18,000-capacity Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre on Monday.

Linkin Park somehow survived the early 2000s, but, you know what, we haven’t forgotten the cringe-worthy lyrics, the videos and that mashup with Jay Z…

Here are five atrocities we’ll never forgive Linkin Park for:

5) For this music video, for this haircut and for “confusing what is real”

4) The overused, overly dramatic Gothic tick-tock beat:

Enjoy here:

And here:

3) For these lyrics from “One Step Closer”:

“Shut up when I’m talking to you

Shut up, shut up, shut up

Shut up when I’m talking to you

Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up”

…And for this song title…

“P5hng Me A*wy,”

…with the lyrics…

“Reverse psychology is failing miserably.”

…And also these lyrics from “Faint”:

“Now

Hear me out now

You’re gonna listen to me, like it or not

Right now”

2) For dragging Jay Z down with you:

, “But too often Jay’s world-class flow leaves Linkin Park in the dust, and the juxtapositions are pure novelties and less fun than they should be.”

1) For an era of metal/hip-hop hybrids that reminds us of Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit.

Letap all have a cheerful moment of silence for nu metal.
