Broncos co-captain Terrance Knighton on Monday called for Ray Rice to be “thrown out of the NFL and throw into jail” after previously undisclosed security footage released on Monday showed Rice throwing a left punch to the face of his then-fiance, knocking her out cold.
The NFL said that they had not seen the low-resolution footage — . The disclosure could force the NFL to reopen its case against Rice, a running back for the Baltimore Ravens who received a two-game suspension for the incident, a punishment widely panned for being too lenient. Footage released publicly before had shown Rice only dragging an unconscious Janay Palmer, now his wife, out of an Atlantic City hotel elevator, not the altercation itself.
“Shame on those deciding his punishment,” Knighton said. “Smh (Shaking my head).”
“If there’s anyway (sic) to open that case up and give this guy the punishment he deserves, it NEEDS to be done,” Knighton continued. “As players we must speak up. Stand up for what’s right. I don’t give a damn who u are or how much money you make. No place for this.
“As players we always speak on how we are unfairly treated, well now what?”
The furor over Rice’s punishment forced commissioner Roger Goodell to re-evaluate the league’s policy for domestic violence and release a new one requiring a six-game suspension for a first-time domestic violence incident, and a possible lifetime ban for a subsequent one.
“We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us. And no one in our office has seen it until today,” the NFL said in a statement of the latest video.
That man should be thrown out the the nfl and thrown into jail. Shame on those deciding his punishment. Smh
