Dee Hart, Treyous Jarrells as the clock counted down the final seconds of their spectacular CSU debuts against Colorado.
My feature on CSU running back Treyous Jarrells is in the Monday paper and .
A few other things:
— Part of the trick to covering CSU this season was learning early in preseason camp that when players and coaches mentioned “Sosa,” they meant Jarrells. He says a couple of high school teammates gave him the nickname and it stuck. It apparently has nothing to do with the former Chicago Cubs outfielder.
— Jarrells has an associate degree in behavioral and social sciences from Grossmont College.
— Yes, as a junior who came in from the junior college this season, he’s a first-year player in the program, as was Kapri Bibbs last season, when Bibbs was off limits to the media. Jim McElwain’s media policies remain in place, but he’s being more flexible this season. While Jarrells and Dee Hart aren’t on the list of players available to the media — and that list is much longer than in the past, by the way (at last check, 59 players) — the guideline is that others might be made available on request. Jarrells now has been made available when we requested it, after the Colorado and UC Davis games. Hart has been made available twice, also, after the first practice and after the Colorado game. My feelings about that policy are on the record, but I respect McElwain and am not going to make a big deal out of this, especially since he is showing flexibility on it this season. Jarrells is 21, Hart 22.
Also, McElwain is not going to be at the weekly Monday noon news conference today. He’s having a very minor procedure done on his troublesome hip at the start of the bye week. Assistant head coach Tim Skipper and offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin will meet with the media.
