BOULDER — Good news for Colorado’s offensive line: starting left tackle Jeromy Irwin may be able to play Saturday in the home game against Hawaii.
Irwin, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound sophomore, suffered a concussion during .
“I think (he will be available for Saturday),” CU coach Mike MacIntyre said following Monday’s practice.
“His (concussion) signs were really, really, really low yesterday. They’re going to test him again (Monday). If they’re really low again, he should be able to play Saturday. If it’s gone up, then I don’t know.”
In light of backup quarterback Jordan Gehrke playing the final series against ASU, MacIntyre was asked if there is any doubt that Sefo Liufau will remain the Buffs’ starter.
“Not one bit,” MacIntyre replied.
MacIntyre said after the game Saturday night that he inserted Gehrke into the lineup because Liufau had taken some hits in the game by the Sun Devils pass rush.
What had raised eyebrows was putting in the backup quarterback with more than two minutes remaining in the game and the Buffs seemingly still in the game, down by two touchdowns.
Footnote. The Colorado-California game Saturday, Sept. 27 has been selected for broadcast by the Pac-12 Networks and will have a kickoff time of 2 p.m.
