A Fort Collins police officer who had been on the force for less than a year was arrested and fired Tuesday after it was discovered that he allegedly stalked a woman while on duty.
The officer, Jarett Branson, 29, faces charges of stalking, first-degree criminal trespass and official misconduct, Fort Collins police said.
Investigators were first notified of the complaints against Branson last Tuesday.A woman told investigators she had been contacted multiple times, both at work and at home, by Branson while he was on duty.
“It was also alleged that (Branson) used police resources to discover where the female worked and lived,” police said in a news release.
Branson was placed on paid administrative leave until it was determined Tuesday that probable cause existed for his arrest. Investigators then presented charges against the former officer to the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office.
Police said Branson was hired on Jan. 6.
Branson is being held at the Larimer County Jail.
Police say they believe that Branson’s alleged stalking was an “isolated incident.” Authorities are asking anyone who has additional information about the alleged charges to call Fort Collins Police Services Internal Affairs at (970) 221-6831.
