Nearly 1,000 cyclists, ranging in age from 11 to 87 and representing 26 different states, will participate in The Denver Post’s third annual Pedal The Plains Bicycle Tour, beginning Friday.
The event, which will make stops in Wiggins, Fort Morgan and Sterling, has three ride offerings: a three-day tour, a century ride and a family fun ride.
“In three short years, Pedal The Plains has become a Colorado tradition, one of the state’s most anticipated autumn celebrations,” said Gov. John Hickenlooper.
Participants in the three-day tour will travel 174 miles, much of it along the South Platte River. The tour begins and ends in Wiggins, with overnight visits in Fort Morgan and Sterling.
“Each year, host communities welcome Pedal The Plains with open arms and have shared not just their roads but their way of life and history,” said Dean Singleton, chairman of The Denver Post.
“It’s our pleasure to contribute to the local Future Farmers of America and Colorado 4-H chapters as well as other community charities on the Eastern Plains.
“We look forward to expanding these partnerships as the tour continues to grow.”
Pedal The Plains was established three years ago as a celebration of Colorado’s agricultural roots and the frontier heritage on the Eastern Plains.
The Denver Post Community Foundation’s presenting partner is Viaero Wireless. There are five founding partners: Western Dairy Association, Anadarko Petroleum, Noble Energy, DaVita and Suncor Energy.
