A man driving a stolen vehicle rear-ended a vehicle on Sheridan Boulevard, injuring himself as two other men bolted on foot from the scene of the collision.

The incident happened about 7 a.m. near the intersection of Sheridan and West 5th Avenue, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was injured by the impact and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Jackson said.

Two other men who had been in the vehicle jumped and ran to a nearby home, where they were taken into custody a short time later without further incidence.

The driver of the vehicle that was hit was not injured, Jackson said. The collision caused a chain reaction fender-bender and several other vehicles were involved. There was no immediate report of additional injuries.

Police suspect the trio were involved in car break-ins and thefts overnight in Lakewood based on items recovered at the scene of the collision.
