Many teachers in Jefferson County Public Schools could again be absent Monday after 50 teachers either called in sick or claimed personal days.

The educators were apparently expressing their frustration over the county’s education policies, specifically the district leadership.

The Jefferson County Education Association, which serves as the teachers union, told The Denver Post last week that they did not organize the event, adding, however, that they understood the teacher’s frustrations.

In an e-mail to staff Thursday, district leadership said a “sick-out” was also possibly planned for Monday, adding that such actions would be illegal.

Tensions between teachers and district leadership have been brewing since last year over several contentious issues, .
